Free Thanksgiving Number Recognition Activities!

Thanksgiving is kind of a big deal in the U.S.A. While not everyone celebrates it, most Americans do. In fact, 96 percent of those surveyed in the Harris Poll said they celebrate Thanksgiving.

So as we enter into the season of turkey, gratitude, friends, family, and food, I’d like to share a few of my favorite Thanksgiving activities.

Free Turkey Number Recognition Activities

Let’s start with something nearly every teacher loves…books. These books make great read-alouds. (Psst…This post contains affiliate links.)

What skills does it cover?

Students will build their number recognition skills for numbers 1-10 with these subitizing activities. They’ll practice identifying each number shown in different ways, including base ten blocks, dominos, dice, fingers, tally marks, tens frames, and word forms.

How can you use the free Thanksgiving math activities?

This freebie includes a build-a-turkey math activity and the color-by-number worksheet. Use the build-a-turkey math activity as a center or small group activity. Use the worksheet for morning work, seat work, or an early finisher activity. They can be used together or separately.

Differentiation

The activities are designed to be flexible and easy to differentiate.

For students who need more support:

•Reduce the number of turkeys so that the student is only presented with a few numbers at a time.

•Remove some of the feathers. For example, you might remove the feathers with number words.

For students needing more challenge:

•Use the turkeys with the number words. Once the pieces have been laminated, students can use a dry-erase marker to trace over the number words.

•Assign each student a number and challenge them to draw their own turkey. Challenge them to show the number in different ways on the feathers. Have them complete the color-by-number worksheet.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

I truly hope you and your students enjoy these free Thanksgiving math activities.
