Man, it has been ages since I have posted! Although I love blogging and have really missed it, I have had to take some time off of it. My adorable daughters and work have kept me crazy busy this year. One of my major goals this year is to get back into the swing of things and blog regularly again, so stay tuned because I am back.

As anyone who has seen the news lately knows Georgia was hit hard with snow this week. A forecast for snow here usually means someone somewhere in the area might see a snowflake or two fall before the day is through. Maybe. Not this time. Nope.

We got a whopping 3 inches. I know that doesn't sound like much to those of you up North, but the temps were above freezing when it started so the first part melted on the road. Since the roads weren't treated and the temperature was rapidly dropping the roads turned into ice sheets topped with about 2 inches of snow. It's hilly here and most of our roads wind. So, needless to say the roads were less than pleasant. My 20 minute commute turned into 3 hours and I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get home with my kids. Once we were home the snow was a lot more fun. Check out my oldest. She's loving it!

These 3 inches caused a half day on Tuesday and snow days for the rest of the week. What is it like where you live? What does it take to have a snow day at your school? Leave a comment and let me know.

Thanksgiving Bump

Whoohoo! (How do you spell that anyway?) It’s almost Thanksgiving. We get a whole week off around here. I love that about my district. It gives everyone enough time to travel to see family. We are lucky though that both my husband and I have our families here. Literally both of our parents are within 10 minutes from our house.
The best thing is that there are never any arguments about whose parents to visit. Since I am an only child and his family is bigger than mine, so my mom just joins us over at his folks’ house. I also love it because I don’t have to cook or do a ton of dishes. That’s just not really my thing. We do always bring something though & I try to help with the cleanup because it just wouldn't be right not to at least help.
Since Turkey Day is on everyone’s mind around here I made a little Bump game for my students to play. Click on the picture if you would like a copy. Directions are included.

Classroom Schedule

With my older daughter  upstairs playing with a friend and the baby  asleep, it's the first time in months that I've been able to sit down at the computer long enough to write. My blog has been terribly neglected in these first few months of school. I've missed it and I've missed you all.

My schedule is packed this year, both at school and at home. I know many of ya'll are in the same boat, which is why I love the link up about schedules going on over at Thank God It's First Grade. I'm always curious about what goes on in other classrooms and schools. It's been really interesting to see how different classroom schedules can be.

7:15-7:45 Homeroom
(Since I don't have a homeroom, I have duty. On Monday I have bus duty which starts at 7:00. From Tuesday to Thursday I have car duty. On Friday I am duty free.)

7:45-8:00 Announcements and Morning Work
8:00-11:15 Resource reading/math/language arts for 4th and 5th grade
11:20-11:50 Lunch (Duty free)
11:50-2:00 Resource reading/math/language arts for kindergarten and first grade
2:00-2:50 Planning & consultations (Students are dismissed during this time and my daughter comes down to my room.)

Leave a comment if you link up. I'd love to see your schedule.

EN Family Spin and Graph

Here is another short e word family spin and graph sheet. This time it is for the word family -en.
Starfall also has a short activity (click here) that deals with the -en word family and a story too (click here)! These can be used as centers on the computer or they are great to do with your whole group using an interactive whiteboard.
You could also put up this video clip on your interactive whiteboard and practice blending together. It doesn't have any sound but it is perfect for having your students practice sounding out words.

Thanks for stopping by today. Please take a second to follow me here at Grade School Giggles.

AD Family Spin and Graph

Today I am sharing another Spin and Graph Freebie. This one is for the -ad family. You could pair it with the book "I Was So Mad" by Mercer Mayer and maybe have the kids draw or write about a time they were mad.

AT Family Spin and Graph

We're back in school now and I am exhausted. The first week of school always kicks my hind end if you know what I mean. The kids have much more energy than me. A ton more! I need a nap, but before I crash I wanted to share this little freebie with you.
It is a spin and graph worksheet. Students spin using a paperclip and pencil. Then, they complete the frequency chart and bar graph using -at family words.
